Occasionally award winning children's writer decides to become a composer as well: whilst working on a debut series of instrumental sci-fi novellas (robotics, galactic exploration, deep space diaspora, the future revival, yet again, of disco) his picture book (Mouse's First Night at Moonlight School) gets short-listed for The Scottish Children's Book Awards 2016. He takes time out to write a nocturne - The Night Bell - to celebrate.
